Here is a quick look at what is needed to set goals and manage your SEO (SEO) campaign.
It is important to define your goals for your website.
It is good to make goals at different points throughout the life of your site such as when you create it, when you make improvements to it, when you decide to “spy” on the competition for example.
It is also important to keep the goal in the back of your mind and be aware of what you need to do to reach it. There is nothing more motivating then knowing you have to meet a goal in order to keep motivated and improving. If you can keep these 2 goals in the back of your mind and set short term goals on a regular basis, it helps keep you from procrastination.
A good tip for goals is to be objective. Ask yourself; how would I know if I have met this goal? And how does this outcome help me. For example, if you get 50 visitors for your site on day 5, if it is not increasing your click through rate, and it is not getting you more page views, is it worth it?
As we have seen, defining your goals is very important. You now have a goal for the day to meet, beat, or surpass. Next step is set a short term goal. This is important and you need to be realistic. Stick to a goal that is not impossible and do not make your short term goals super long, such as getting 1000 clicks on your site today. This would make it super difficult to meet, beat, or surpass in a few months time. Keep your goals simple. A goal to get a specific result would be much more realistic.
Now you have decided your goals. It is time to come up with a plan to reach them. There are several ways of accomplishing this but here are a few quick and dirty methods.
1) Article Marketing – If you have an article, find a article directory and get it published. The best are Digg, Reddit, one of the many free directories that are out there, etc. There are many more but the above two are the best. Write a good article and provide a link to your site. Get a link back.
2) Blogging – Write a blog post. Provide a link to your site. Make sure the blog post is relevant. Do not spam. Repeat the steps above on a regular basis to get more links back to your site and more traffic to your site.
What more? There are some other methods but these are the most common ways. You are now ready to put your traffic strategy to work for you. Your job is to find and submit your site to search engines. Add to your existing site content, make sure that your site is relevant to the search term, add some useful items to your site, and get started.
